JAMMU and Kashmir is well into weeks of the covid-19 lockdown due to an increase in the number of cases. Although the number of cases haven’t seen an evident decline, the numbers do show a ray of hope. However, this is where we need to be cautious.
The lockdown may be working and the cases might drop. However, we’re out of vaccines and haven’t had the opportunity to use the lockdown to our advantage. This means that should the lockdown be lifted after the cases fall, we cannot become complacent at any cost.
Many WhatsApp forwards are suggesting that Kashmir is well on its way of recovery. Let’s hope so. However, we cannot afford to get lousy and throw caution to the wind again. It is not only important to save lives but to ensure that people can get back to their businesses.
We cannot afford a third wave and another lockdown. This means that as a community we need to stay put at following SOPs and to ensure that cases keep dropping. This is cardinal for our economic health as well.
Covid appropriate behaviour is a life saver. Just as you wouldn’t go without food for a day to survive, you shouldn’t go without a mask. Vaccine or not, we need to follow SOPs in any case.
For a small place like Kashmir, containing the virus may not be that difficult. But it is going to be challenging to survive it.
