Srinagar: Coronavirus claimed on Tuesday 71 more lives in Jammu and Kashmir, the second highest single-day death toll, while 3967 more people tested positive for the deadly infection across the Union Territory during the last 24 hours.
Officials told Kashmir Observer that among the 71 fatalities reported Tuesday, 39 victims were residents of Jammu division and the remaining 32 hailed from different parts of the Kashmir Valley. Their deaths, they said, raised the overall fatality count since the outbreak of pandemic last year, to 3293 in the Union Territory.
Among the victims from the Valley included a 68-year-old woman from Baghat Srinagar, who died 13 days after remaining admitted at the Chest Diseases hospital here, to one of the exclusive facilities for the management of the cobid-19 patients. Besides her, a 75-year-old woman from Rawalpora also succumbed to Covid at the SMHS hospital, six days after she was admitted with bilateral Community Acquired Pneumonia (CAP).
Also, officials said that an 89-year-old woman from Bemina here died at SMHS hospital, two days after she was admitted there.
An 80-year-old man from Khidam Nowshera diagnosed with bilateral CAP died a day after he was admitted to GMC Anantnag while a 55-year-old woman from Khanabal also died at midnight at the healthcare facility.
A 65-year-old woman from Azadgunj Baramulla died at Covid Center Indoor stadium Baramulla, two days after she was admitted to GMC Baramulla and subsequently shifted to the make-shift facility, they said.
An 80-year-old woman from Pattan died at home due to Covid-19 complications. She had been declared Covid positive on May 14, officials said, adding that a 55-year-old woman from Kralpora died at Sub District Hospital Kupwara, 11 days after she was admitted there.
Another victim was a 50-year-old from Shopian, who died at a healthcare facility, they added.
During the last 24 hours, the officials said that J&K reported 3967 new cases of infection—1704 from Jammu division and 2263 from Kashmir thus taking the total number of people infected by the virus to 251919.
Giving district-wise details, the officials said that Srinagar reported 666, Baramulla 196, Budgam 454, Pulwama 127, Kupwara 120, Anantnag 156, Bandipora 134, Ganderbal 116, Kulgam 190, Shopian 104, Jammu 522, Udhampur 272, Rajouri 141, Doda 59, Kathua 183, Samba 107, Kishtwar 49, Poonch 123, Ramban 188 and Reasi 60 fresh cases of coronavirus.
Moreover, they said, 3823 more patients have recovered—1360 from Jammu Division and 2463 from Kashmir. There are 50925 active cases—21021 in Jammu and 29904 in Kashmir, they added.
