Srinagar: At least six security personnel and a civilian were injured on Friday in a grenade blast in Nawab Bazar area of Srinagar.
Suspected militants lobbed a grenade towards a joint team of police and CRPF near Nawab Bazar bridge on Friday afternoon that exploded with a bang, eyewitnesses told Kashmir Observer. In the grenade blast, five CRPF personnel, a policeman besides a civilian were injured.
The injured have been identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector Prem Kumar, Constables Harish Kumar, Vijay Kumar, Surinder Kumar, Mudla Giri, all from CRPF 23 Battalion. The injured policeman and civilian have been identified as Constable Fayaz Ahmed and Hazik Ali Digoo of Chanapora here.
A police official said that all security personnel and the civilians were removed to the nearby SMHS hospital for the treatment of splinter injuries.
Soon after the attack, additional CRPF and police personnel reached the area and carried out searches to nab the attackers.
A local news agency KNT reported that the government forces fired shots in the air after they were pelted with stones by unidentified youth.
