Srinagar: Normal life in Jammu and Kashmir remained crippled for the fourth consecutive day Monday in wake of a lockdown imposed by the administration to combat the spread of coronavirus.
According to the reports, all shops, financial establishments, petrol pumps remained closed while traffic was off the roads due to strict restrictions imposed by the administration to stop the surge of coronavirus. CRPF troopers and policemen enforced Corona curfew and prevented people from venturing out of their houses, reports said.
Here in Srinagar, hundreds of CRPF men and cops guarded the deserted streets, lanes and by lanes to prevent people from breaching Covid-19 imposed restrictions. Lal Chowk, the commercial hub of the city was out of bounds for civilians after all the roads leading to the city centre were blocked with barricades and concertina wire.
Many roads leading to the Old City were also blocked by the forces with razor wire. Forces had also sealed off all roads, lanes and by lanes in several parts of the downtown with spools of concertina wire. At many places, armoured vehicles were placed at vital intersections to regulate the movement of people.
However, essential and emergency services were allowed by the law enforcement agencies.
The Jammu and Kashmir administration had initially imposed lockdown in 11 districts — Srinagar, Anantnag, Baramulla, Budgam, Kulgam, Pulwama, Ganderbal, Jammu, Kathua, Reasi and Udhampur on Thursday last.
However, two days later on Saturday, the Union Territory administration led by Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha announced to extend curfew in four districts of Srinagar, Baramulla, Budgam, and Jammu till May 6 morning instead of May 3
The government had also announced formation of a five-member Crisis Management Group, comprising Chief Secretary; Financial Commissioners – Finance, and Health & Medical Education; Home Secretary and Principal Secretary to the Government, Public Works (R&B) Department to meet the emerging coronavirus situation
