Srinagar: Amid rising covid-19 cases, authorities prohibited congregational prayers in mosques in a village in Tangmarg area of north Kashmir after it was reported that the residents do not follow the covid-19 SOPs.
“In the larger interest of lives of General public of Village Ferozpora, it is hereby ordered that the congregational prayers in all mosques of the said village shall be strictly prohibited, for a period of one week in the first instance,” reads an order issued by SDM.
It mentions that the District Magistrate Baramulla (Chairperson DDMA) on April 22 declared Village Ferozpora in Tehsil Tangmarg as Micro-containment zone for containment of Covid-19 disease.
“The mass sampling of the Village was carried out by Medical Block Tangmarg and it has been detected that 21% residents have tested positive for Covid-19 infections which reflects a sharp surge in the Covid positive cases,” the order reads, adding, “It has been reported that the inhabitants of the village do not follow SOPs/guidelines during the indoor gatherings viz congregational prayers.”
The SDM has underlined that any violation to order shall invite punitive action.
“The Tehsildar Tangmarg and SDPO Tangmarg shall implement the order in letter and spirit,” the order added.
