Srinagar: In a significant development, the administration of Jammu & Kashmir Union Territory has notified more than 200 posts as suitable for persons with benchmark disabilities.
According to an order issued by the Social Welfare department, around 200 posts have been identified in different departments along with categories of disabled suitable for them.
The move will broaden the scope of employment for persons with benchmark disabilities who are entitled for reservation in government jobs.
The order reveals that the government has also identified posts for categories of persons with disabilities such as autism, intellectual disability, specific learning disability, mental illness and multiple disabilities.
The posts have been notified months after an expert committee constituted by the J&K administration last year submitted its report to the government.
On November 27, 2020, the government constituted an expert panel headed by administrative secretary Finance and comprising administrative secretary General Administration Department, administrative secretary Social Welfare department and others to identify posts in different departments establishments which can be held by respective category of persons with benchmark disabilities in respect of the vacancies reserved for the disabled by the government.
It has also been mandated to undertake periodic review of the identified posts at an interval not exceeding three years.
After the expert panel submitted its report, the General Administration Department on March 17, 2021 conveyed the approval of the competent authority to the acceptance of the report and advised the Social Welfare department to work out the modalities for its implementation. (KNO)
