‘Issuing Pointless Orders’
Srinagar: Deputy Mayor of Srinagar, Parvez Qadri Tuesday accused the city Mayor, Junaid Azim Mattu of acting as a stumbling block in the developmental work undertaken by the government in Srinagar.
Qadri alleged that Mattu recently stopped renovation work at Khankahi Moulla shrine in the old city sans any reasonable ground. He said Mattu acts as a barrier in the renovation of shrines in Srinagar.
He also said the initiative taken by the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism department to renovate all major shrines in Srinagar is a welcome and appreciable move, however, the Mayor for unknown reasons ordered for the stopping of work.
“I don’t understand if the government has taken an initiative to renovate all shrines across Kashmir including Srinagar, what makes our Mayor who is the father of the city to stop the work. He recently stopped renovation work in Khankahi Moulla asserting that the shrine is a heritage site,” he alleged.
Qadri said the renovation of Khankahi Moulla shrine at Zaina Kadal would not lessen its heritage status hence repair work must be resumed without any pointless interference.
“I strongly oppose the Mayor’s recent order. Renovation work will not lessen the heritage status of the shrine in any way. We urge the Lieutenant Governor to take cognisance of the issues and order renovation of the shrine afresh,” added the deputy mayor. —(KNO)
