Srinagar: Jammu & Kashmir RTI Movement Thursday demanded that illegal constructions taking place in Anchar lake area be stopped as land grabbers and other people are constantly filling up the wetland in Haji Bagh area with muck and soil on a daily basis especially during night hours. “Illegal construction is also going on in the area.”
In a statement, Chairman RTI Movement Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat appealed to Divisional Commissioner Kashmir and Commissioner SMC to act against this illegal encroachment.
“The earth filling is being done in Anchar lake for the last many days, allege locals. We got several phone calls from the area to highlight the issue. If this is true, the Govt must act soon as this is sheer violation of Wetland Conservation and Management Rules 2017. Govt must act against the erring officials of LAWDA , SMC, Police and Revenue Department who facilitate these illegal constructions,” said Dr Raja Muzaffar
RTI Movement appreciated the role of Nigeen Lake Conservation Organization (NLCO) which has taken up Gilsar clean up drive from last more than 2 months.
“I pay my gratitude to Manzoor Wangnoo Chairman NLCO for his untiring efforts to clean up Gilsar. I appreciate role played by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir and SMC Commissioner who are supporting NLCO’s initiative,” Dr Raja Muzaffar added.
