Srinagar: The sleuths of anti-corruption bureau (ACB) on Tuesday arrested a works supervisor for allegedly demanding bribe from a contractor in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.
Abdul Rehman Bhat, in-charge supervisor (Works), Block Development Office, Gund in Kangan was arrested by ACB after a case FIR No.08 of 2021, under section 7 Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 was registered against him in Police Station ACB Srinagar.
Divulging the case details, an ACB spokesperson said that a complaint was received by the anti-graft body on its WhatsApp helpline alleging that Bhat was demanding Rs 2000 bribe from a contractor to release an amount of Rs 23914 related to the construction of road under MGNREGA scheme worth Rs. 142223. He further said that the complainant had received only Rs118309 out of the estimated amount while rest of the amountRs.23914 was yet to be released in his favour.
“He approached the concerned office, for release of the same, the in-charge supervisor demanded bribe for releasing the same,” the ACB spokesperson said.
“A trap team was constituted that laid a successful trap and caught Abdul Rehman Bhat red handed while demanding and accepting the bribe from the complainant. The amount of bribe to the tune of Rs. 2000 was also recovered on the spot,” he added.
The Bureau spokesperson further said that the accused works supervisor was arrested and taken into custody by ACB Team.
“Further investigation is in progress,” he added.
