Srinagar: Police on Saturday claimed to have cracked a case of grenade throwing in Sopore town of Baramulla district by arresting two alleged militant associates of Lashker-e-Taiba (LeT).
Mohammad Asif Najar of Noor Bagh and Sahil Rashid Bhat of Green Town Sopore were detained by police in connection with a grenade attack at the Police Post at the Bus Stand Sopore on December last in which three civilians were injured, a police spokesperson said Saturday. During questioning, he said that the duo confessed that they are working for LeT outfit as over-ground workers (OGWs) and had thrown the Grenade on police post on the directions of LeT militants.
Regarding the incident, he said a case FIR No.349/2020 was registered in Police Station Sopore and investigation set into the motion.
“The duo also confessed that they were desirous to join the militant ranks but before that a hand grenade was handed over to them with the directions to throw it on any security forces/ police establishments in Sopore area,” the police spokesperson said
He said both the alleged OGWs have been formally arrested on April 01in the case and are presently on Police remand.
“Further investigation is going on,” he added.
