Srinagar: The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday arrested a policeman from central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district for demanding bribe from the families over a marital dispute.
ACB received a complaint through WhatsApp helpline from a man alleging that a Gulzar Ahmad, a head constable at the police station Gund was calling him repeatedly over his phone and demanding an amount of Rs2000for issuance of the true copy of the compromise deed he had entered into with his in-laws after they had filed a complaint with police, an ACB spokesperson said Thursday. The policeman, he said, had amicably solved the dispute between the couple and to this effect a compromise deed was executed between the parties on March 31.
“On receipt of the complaint, a case FIR No.06 of 2021 U/S 7 PC Act. 1988 IPC was registered in Police Station ACB Srinagar and investigation was taken up,” the Bureau spokesperson said.
After filing the case, he said, a team was constituted that laid a successful trap and caught Ahmad red handed while demanding and accepting the bribe from the complainant.
“The amount of bribe to the tune of Rs. 2,000 was also recovered on the spot. He was arrested and taken in custody by ACB team,” he said, adding “Further investigation of the case is going on,”
