Jammu: A 26-year-old soldier shot himself dead inside a camp in Jammu, officials said on Monday.
They said Nitish Mishra, a resident of Madhya Pradesh, used his service rifle and shot himself dead while he was posted at the sentry duty at his Raipir camp in Belicharana area late Sunday night.
The soldier died instantly and his body was taken by police for medical and legal formalities.
Immediately, it was not known as to why the soldier took the extreme step even as police have started investigation in the incident, officials said.
The post-mortem of the body was conducted at a hospital this morning and later it was handed over to the concerned unit, they added. (GNS)
