Srinagar: Commissioner SMC Athar Aamir Khan Monday took a detailed ward-wise review of building activities and enforcement at central office Karan Nagar.
Amir reviewed all the 35 SMC administrative wards and took stock of permissions being approved, demolition drives being taken up with regard to illegal construction, complaints regarding violation of building norms including conversion of nature of building permissions from residential to commercial ones, redressal of grievances and legal action taken thereof, an SMC statement said.
Commissioner in the meeting passed directions that no violations in sanctioned building plans will be tolerated and the number of permissions issued in every ward needs to be kept constantly under watch from the initial level of structure getting upraised so that all the deviations are regularly monitored and not allowed to come up right from the plinth level.
On the occasion, he directed ward officers that all the building activities with regard to building permissions, illegal constructions and the major deviations in sanctioned plans shall be dealt with under act/rules.
Athar further said that the motive of the meeting is to get acquainted with the present status of each ward regarding the various ongoing building-related activities and the role of enforcement in reinforcement before he would personally visit every ward and review the activities on the ground.
“A strong action for any erring official found involved in facilitating illegal constructions will be taken under the law.”
Besides Joint Commissioner Admin Syed Abdul Qasim, Joint Commissioner Works Ishtiyaq Ahmed Shah, Joint Commissioner Planning Ghulam Hassan Chief Enforcement Officer, all the Ward officers along with building inspectors attended the meeting.
Athar reiterated to take timely action of complaints regarding illegal constructions and keep monitoring the permissions that stand issued whether they are coming up as per the permitted plan or have got completed under various norms.
For improvisation and efficiency of Ward officers and Building Inspectors in carrying effective building activities out on the ground, Joint Commissioner Planning has been directed to conduct a day-long capacity building programme in two phases to all ward officers and Building inspectors this coming Sunday in which ATPs will also be involved, so that the Ward Officers and Building Inspectors are well versed with the rules envisaged in Master plan to have a better understanding of norms before its proper implementation on the ground in letter and spirit.
Meanwhile, he also instructed the concerned to give weekly reminders to the line departments for submitting NOC’s of the building permissions cases to ease out the people’s movement and to forward a copy of building permissions to the applicants through email so as to save their time till the hard copy is being received from the applicant’s end.
