SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir cricket team on Thursday fell short by 13 runs while putting on a valiant effort to chase down Haryana’s total of 308 runs in the Vijay Hazare Elite Group E match played at the famed Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata.
Earlier, Jammu and Kashmir won the toss and decided to field first.
Haryana lost opener H. Rana (2) early on but a determined century by Shivam Chauhan (123) and cameos by Chaitanya Bishnoi (45) and Rohit Pramod Sharma (51) helped them reach a total of 308 for the loss of 6 wickets in the allotted 50 overs.
For Jammu and Kashmir, Mujtaba Yousuf and Aquib Nabi took 2 wickets each while Captain Parvez Rasool took 1 wicket.
In response, the Jammu and Kashmir’s top order batsmen struggled to make any meaningful contribution. Suryansh Raina (2), Vivrant Sharma (1), Shubham Khajuria (9) and Shubham Pundir (4) were all back in the pavilion while the score read 48 for the loss of 4 wickets.
Parvez Rasool (81) played a captain’s innings to give his team a sense of hope. Lower order players, Bandeep Singh (51), Abid Mushtaq (46) and Mujtaba Yousuf (32), all contributed to take Jammu and Kashmir closer and closer to Haryana’s score.
In the end, Haryana proved too strong for Jammu and Kashmir, bowling them out for 295 runs, with 5 balls to spare.
Jammu and Kashmir’s second loss of their Vijay Hazare campaign leaves them in a precarious position in the points table of Elite Group E. They next play Bengal on February 27.
