Srinagar- Police Wednesday clarified that no militant has been killed in an encounter in Shalgul forest area of Srigufwara in south Kashmir’s Anantnag.
A police official said that there was some confusion regarding the killing of militants.
However the official said that four militants are likely to be trapped inside the encounter site.
Earlier, Kashmir Zone police tweeted that four unidentified militants were killed in an encounter, however, the police later deleted the tweet.
On Wednesday morning, state forces launched a cordon and search operation at Shalgul forest area of Srigufwara after receiving specific information about the presence of militants in the area, a police official said.
He said the search operation turned into an encounter after the militants opened fire at a search party of the forces, who retaliated.
The encounter is going on and further details are awaited, the official said.
