Srinagar: A massive fire broke out in Welcome hotel Boulevard road in Srinagar on Tuesday.
An eyewitness said that the fire engulfed the hotel around 1:30 pm; however, there were no immediate details about the cause of the fire.
An official from the Fire and Emergency department Srinagar said that a team rushed to the spot to douse off the flames. The official added that the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
An employee of the hotel told Kashmir Observer that the Tourist police reached the spot on time and with the help of the locals they were able to douse off the fire.
He said around 50 tourists were present in the hotel and all were evacuated safely with the help of locals. He further added that they are yet to access the damage.
“The fire was caused by a short circuit in one of the rooms. But the timely help of the locals and firefighters brought the fire under control by 3:30 pm,” he said.
The Hotel belongs to senior vice president of JKHC Riyaz Shahdad.
Meanwhile, J&K Hoteliers Club has expressed regret over the fire incident at Hotel Welcome.
Chairman JK Hoteliers Club Mushtaq Chaya expressed sadness over the incident and expressed full sympathy to the owner.
Chaya also urged the administration to provide full support to the Hotel owners in this time of crisis.
General Secretary of the Club Tariq Rashid Ghani also urged the government to assess the fire incident loss and assist the hotelier for its refurbishing.
