Srinagar: The Srinagar-Leh Highway was once again closed for vehicular traffic on Wednesday, hours after the strategic road was thrown open after remaining shut for over a week following snowfall.
According to the reports, the Srinagar- Leh highway was thrown open for one-way traffic on Wednesday; however, an avalanche at Dayal Zojila prompted the officials to halt the movement of vehicles again.
“Today road was thrown open but the fresh avalanche prompted authorities to close the highway once again,” an official told news agency KNT
DSP Traffic Rural, Faeem Ali said that only army convoy was allowed to move towards Srinagar. However, the traffic, he said, was again suspended after an avalanche hit a site at Dayal Zojila pass.
SDM Drass, Asghar Hussain said that efforts were on to clear the snow near avalanche site. He said he was hopeful that the traffic will shortly be allowed on the highway.
Pertinently, the crucial road link between Leh and Srinagar was closed by the administration following heavy snowfall last week.
