Srinagar: Lashing out at the government for its claims of conducting DDC polls for strengthening democracy at grass root level, Awami Itehad Party (AIP) on Monday termed these claims as “ingloriously false, far from reality and an odious insult to the people at large”.
“When one of the most trusted political voices of Kashmir, Er Rashid continues to be in illegal detention how can these polls be called legitimate”, a party spokesperson said in a statement.
“The party which outperformed everyone in entire North Kashmir has been forced to remain out of the race. The fact is that New Delhi is allowing and facilitating, parties of its own choice and the real indigenous voices of the people are being unabashedly suppressed”, the statement alleged.
“What can be the justification for the illegal detention of AIP Supremo Er Rashid and making tall claims of strengthening grass root democracy?”, it asked.
“The irony is that traditional players like PAGD, Congress and BJP and its allies who are contesting these elections are more than happy with Er Rashid’s detention as they know pretty well that he will call spade a spade and it would be a repeat of 2019 Baramulla-Lok Sabha elections where a seven year old party gave everyone a run for their money especially those bred and fed by New Delhi.”, it said.
