Over a dozen BJP workers and leaders assembled at Tagore Hall on Monday morning to celebrate Accession Day.
To begin with, BJP general secretary and in-charge for Kashmir Vibodh Gupta garlanded the pictures of Maharaja Hari Singh, ‘Bharat Mata’ and Maqbool Sherwani, who is reported to have diverted Pakistan tribesmen in Baramulla in 1948.
Later, the BJP leaders and workers boarded their cars and took out ‘Tiranga Rally’ under tight security cover.
The movement of civilian traffic was halted at many places to provide safe passage to the ‘Tiranga Rally’ cavalcade
Security arrangement were elaborate along the route of the rally which passed throuh city’s high security zone.
In a faux pas during rally, the national flag was hoisted on a vehicle upside down.
With the green at the top and saffron at the bottom, the inverted national flag was attached to the bonnet of a black SUV in which BJP’s Altaf Thakur was travelling during the Tiranga rally from Tagore Hall to SKICC on the banks of Dal Lake. The mistake was widely circulated via videos on social media.
BJP leaders and workers carrying tricolor got down from their vehicles on reaching ‘Peoples Alliance’ Chief Dr Farooq Abdullah’s residence on Gupkar Road and shouted pro-India and pro-BJP slogans.
From Abdullah house, the BJP leaders walked upto PDP President Mehbooba Mufti’s Fairview residence on the far end of Gupkar Road, where they waved tricolor and shouted ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’
Later, the rally concluded at SKICC Srinagar, where BJP workers celebrated the accession day.
