Srinagar: Unidentified gunmen on Monday shot dead an employee of Rural Development Department (RDD) in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.
Sabzar Ahmad Naikoo was critically injured when unknown gunmen fired upon him in his native Nildora on Monday evening, officials said. He was removed to the nearby hospital for treatment. However, the doctors there referred him to Srinagar’s SMHS hospital for specialized treatment.
Naikoo, officials said succumbed to injuries before the doctors could operate upon him.
Medical Superintendent SMHS hospital Dr Nazir Choudhary confirmed to local news agency GNS that Naikoo died at the hospital.
A senior police officer said that Naikoo worked in Rural Development Department.
Soon after the incident, government forces reached the spot and launched a search operation to nab the attackers.
