Srinagar: The popular ski destination of Gulmarg in north Kashmir on Saturday received the first snowfall of the season.
The light snowfall has given a new look to Gulmarg which remains deserted following August 5 last year due to lockdown following abrogation of Kashmir’s semi-autonomas status.
Meanwhile rans lashed Srinagar and parts of Kashmir valley bringing temperatures further down.
According to the Director Department of Meteorology, Sonum Lotus weather is likely to change further towards the first week of October.
Gondola Service To Resume Today
The Jammu and Kashmir government on Friday announced resumption of the first phase of Gondola cable car service in tourist resort of Gulmarg on weekends beginning Sunday.
According to an official spokesperson, the Gondola phase-I will operate twice a week on Saturday and Sunday from Gulmarg to Kongdoori. The resumption of the Gondola service will be carried out following requisite Covid-19 protocols, including social distancing, sanitization of cabins before and after boarding and de-boarding of passengers, compulsory wearing of masks by all and other safety measures.
“No tourist shall be allowed to board the Gondola without wearing of masks and any tourist with temperature exceeding 99° Celsius shall not be allowed to enter the premises of the ropeway. This is for the information of tourists visiting Gulmarg,” the official spokesperson added.
