Srinagar: A militant has been killed in the ongoing encounter that broke out in Yedipora in Pattan area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Friday, officials said.
Official sources said that a militant was killed in the encounter, However, his identity is yet to be ascertained, reported news agency GNS.
In the initial exchange of firing, a Major of 29 RR sustained injuries and was taken to 92 Base Hospital here for treatment.
Earlier, state forces launched a cordon and search operation at Yedipora in Pattan area of Baramulla district following specific information about the presence of militants, a police officer said.
He said the search operation turned into an encounter after the militants fired upon a search party of the forces, who retaliated.
The exchange of firing is going on, the officer said. Further details were awaited, he said.
