Srinagar: Police on Saturday burst tear smoke shells to disperse relatives of the militants killed in twin encounters in Shopian and Pulwama, after they assembled here outside the Police Control Room (PCR) demanding last glimpse of the slain men.
According to a local news agency KNT, around 40-50 relatives of the militants, who were killed in twin encounters in south Kashmir’s Shopian and Pulwama districts in the last two days, assembled outside the PCR here and demanded they be allowed to have last glimpse of the killed militants. While the families of the militants were allowed inside the PCR, the others too tried to enter into the highly security police complex.
The report said that police used tear-smoke shells to disperse them after they resorted to stone pelting. In the clashes, SDPO Shaheed Gunj suffered injury in his right arm.
At least nine relatives of the militants were arrested during the clashes. They have been identified as Basit Reyaz of Mauhpona Pulwama, Fayaz Sofi of Sangam, Mumtaz Hafi of Dalipora Pulwama, Muzafar Bhat, Muhammad Ishaq and Adil Nazir Bhat all residents of Muradpora Shopian, Zameer Dar and Sahil Mukhtar of Drubgam Pulwama and Shahnawaz Ahmed of Bahibagh Kulgam.
