4 Doctors Among 655 More Test Positive
Srinagar: At least eleven people, including a former MLC succumbed to Covid-19 infection in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, taking the number of fatalities in the Union Territory since the outbreak of pandemic to 675.
Former MLC and Congress leader, who tested positive for the coronavirus disease on August 24, breathed his last at the Government Medical College (GMC) hospital in Kathua in the early hours of Thursday, officials said.
The 87-year-old leader was suffering from various ailments and was admitted to the hospital last week, the officials said.
Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha expressed grief over the demise of the MLC and veteran political leader of Kathua.
Besides the former MLC, two more Covid-19 deaths were reported from Jammu division, officials said.
They said that a 63-year-old man, hailing from Rajouri district, died at the GMC hospital here on Wednesday evening after battling for life for the last five days. He also had comorbidities, the officials said.
A 70-year-old woman, who had tested COVID-19 positive, in Jammu district died at the GMC hospital here, they said.
Eight people from Kashmir Valley died due the virus since overnight, taking the overall fatality count in &K to 675.
They said a 95-year-old man from Jawahar Nagar Srinagar died at 9:30 hours last night at CD hospital. “He was a case of bilateral pneumonia with HTN and diabetes. “The patient was intubated on August 16 and had cardiac arrest,” a senior doctor at the hospital said.
A 45-year-old woman from Pandach Srinagar, who was admitted to SKIMS Soura on August 25 died at the tertiary care hospital.
A 58-year-old woman from Hajan Pulwama who was admitted on August 18 also died at the hospital.
A 60-year-old man from Fateh Kadal Srinagar who was admitted on August 17 as a case of “CKD, CAD bilateral CAP” died at SMHS hospital.
A 56-year-old woman from Waterwani Budgam also died at SKIMS, a week after she was admitted to the hospital, the sources said.
Among others, the fatalities include an 80-year-old person from Kokernag area and a 60-year-old woman from Pulwama.
With these deaths, 675 people have fallen victims to the covid-19 and include 57 from Jammu division and remaining 618 from Kashmir Valley.
4 Doctors Among 655 More Test Positive
Jammu and Kashmir recorded on Thursday 655 fresh cases of coronavirus, including four doctors and seventy-one travelers, taking the total number of people infected by the virus in the Union Territory to 35135.
While Kashmir Valley reported 497 new cases, including seven CRPF men, five minors and as many pregnant woman, four doctors, the remaining 158 were confirmed by officials in the Jammu division.
Giving district-wise breakup of the cases, officials said, Srinagar reported 182 cases, Baramulla 33, Pulwama 42, Budgam 60, Anantnag 27, Kulgam 8, Shopian 23, Kupwara 46, Bandipora 51, Ganderbal 25, Jammu 87, Rajouri 7, Kathua 25, Udhampur 8, Samba 11, Doda 10, Poonch 5, Reasi 2 and Kishtwar 3.
Meanwhile, the officials said, 528 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and were discharged from various hospitals—89 from Jammu Division and 439 from Kashmir Valley. (With GNS inputs)
