KARGIL: Kargil will observe a protest strike on Wednesday (5th of August) against its separation from Jammu and Kashmir and the reading down of erstwhile states semi-autonomous status on this day last year.
Various political and religious bodies have described the division of Jammu and Kashmir as darkest chapter in regions history and called on people to observe 5th August as black day.
A statement issued after a joint meeting of the regions two main political parties National Conference and Congress announced that the two parties will shortly formulate a future course of action for launching a movement for reintegration of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.
The joint meeting attended by NC leader Qamar Ali Akhoon and Congress leader Asghar Ali Karbalaie took following decisions at the meeting.
1. That NC and INC would declare 5th of August as the darkest day in the history of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
2. These two parties have strongly condemned the division of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir and has appealed for reintegration of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh and complete restoration of statehood to it.
3. These two parties have strongly condemned the loss of social and political rights of the people of Ladakh and its cultural identity as a result of the August 5th 2019 decision. And the declared that they are fully committed to fight and work for restoration of social, political and cultural rights of the people of Ladakh.
4. The two parties have also decided that in the very near future, they will formulate a future course of action in this regard. They have appealed to the general public and the religious and social institutions of the Kargil to wholeheartedly extend their support to the coming action plan in the interest of the region.
5. These parties have appealed to the people of Kargil to mark 5th of August as a black day to denounce the central governments decision as a mark of strong protest.
Earlier a religious body Anjuman-e-Sahab Zaman also issued an appeal calling for a complete shutdown across Kargil to mark the day as ‘black-day’.
“People of Kargil condemn and reject what was taken without the consent of the people of Jammu & Kashmir and against their aspirations. Our struggle to get justice will continue,” the Anjuman said.
Government of India annulled the autonomous character of Jammu and Kashmir and divided it into two federally administered areas of Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh on August 5 last year.
