Banihal- A man was killed on Wednesday when his car skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge along the Jammu-Srinagar national highway in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said.
Kehar Singh, a resident of Digiana in Jammu, was on his way to Srinagar when the accident took place near the Kela Morh in the early hours of the day, a police official said.
He said rescuers immediately swung into action and pulled out his body from the wreckage.
A fake identity card of the Indian armed forces was found in his possession and a preliminary investigation suggested that he was using it to pass the toll plazas on the highway without paying any money, the official said.
He said a mini-truck loaded with liquor was involved in a separate accident on the highway on Tuesday night. It took place near Digdole in Ramban district. Two people, Rakesh Singh of Udhampur and Nazir Ahmad of Ramban, sustained critical injuries.
Both were rescued and shifted to district hospital Ramban, the official said, adding that the vehicle was going to Srinagar from Jammu.
