Srinagar- Four militants were killed on Friday in a gunfight with state forces in Munand-Bandpava area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district, taking the number of militants killed in the operation to five, police said.
State forces launched a cordon and search operation at Munand-Bandpava area on Thursday after receiving specific information about the presence of militants there, a police official said.
He said the search operation turned into an encounter after militants fired upon a search party of the forces, who retaliated.
One militant was killed in the gunfight on Thursday, while as four militants were killed today, taking the total toll in the operation to five , the official said.
He said the operation was suspended last night due to the darkness. At first light today, he said, the operation was resumed by the joint forces.
Mobile Internet has been suspended in the Shopian district following the gunfight.
