Srinagar- Three more COVID-19 patients died in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, taking the death toll due to the novel coronavirus in J&K to 60, officials said.
While one death took place in Jammu region, two patients passed away in Kashmir valley, the officials said.
An octogenarian man from Darepora Kralpora area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district died at Chest Diseases (CD) hospital in Srinagar on Sunday, the officials said.
They said the patient was admitted to the hospital on Saturday and was suffering from chronic kidney disease and other ailments.
He was shifted from SMHS hospital as his sample for COVID-19 test had returned as positive, they added.
The second fatality was reported from Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu where an elderly man died overnight.
The 69-year old man, a resident of Gandhi Nagar locality in Jammu city, was admitted to the hospital in a serious condition on May 29 and underwent COVID-19 test and came out positive, the officials said.
They said he was suffering from other ailments including Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), severe sepsis, asthma and acute respiratory distress syndrome. The patient died in the early hours of Sunday.
The body was cremated as per the set protocol, the officials said.
The third death was reported from Srinagar where an elderly man passed away at SKIMS Soura hospital.
A septuagenarian man from Zaina Kadal area of Srinagar, with a travel history of Saudi Arabia, died at the SKIMS Soura hospital this evening, the officials said.
They said the the man, who had tested positive for Covid-19, was suffering from other ailments like hypertension, T2DM, Chronic Kidney Disease , Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).
With these deaths, the death toll due to the pathogen has risen in Jammu and Kashmir to 60— 53 in Valley and 7 in Jammu division.
So far Srinagar district with fourteen deaths due to the virus has the highest fatalities, followed by eleven in Baramulla, eight in Kulgam, five each in Anantnag & Shopian, four each in Kupwara & Jammu, three in Budgam, two in Pulwama while one death each has been reported in Bandipora, Doda, Rajouri & Udhampur.
