TEHRAN: Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei Friday called on Palestinians to continue their uprising against Israel, comparing the Zionist regime to the coronavirus and a “cancerous tumour,” which he said will be eradicated soon.
Ayatollah was speaking live on the occasion of International Quds Day marked annually on the last Friday of Ramazan. Iran Leader said Israel’s establishment was an unequaled “crime against humanity,” and he repeated his characterisation of the Jewish state as “a cancerous tumour and “a virus” that “must be eliminated as soon as possible.
“Among crimes against humanity in recent times, there is no crime that equals this crime in terms of scope and gravity,” Ayatollah said.
He said Israel was created by the West, which conspired with Jewish plutocrats to establish the Zionist state.
“Westerners & Jewish corporation owners’ main goal by fabricating the Zionist regime & this cancerous tumor was to build a stronghold to influence & dominate West Asia. So, they equipped the bogus, occupying regime with all kinds of military & non-military tools, even nukes.”
He said the Iran-led “resistance” had created many problems for Israel and, “God willing, the Zionist regime will encounter even more problems in the future.”
Ayatollah Khamenei said it was an “Islamic duty” to fight for the “liberation of Palestine.”
“The uprising by Palestinians should continue … fight to liberate Palestine is an Islamic obligation… The Zionist regime (Israel) is a cancerous tumour in the region and the long-lasting virus which “will undoubtedly be uprooted and destroyed”.
“And then, the shame will fall on those who put their facilities at the service of the arrogant powers,” he said referencing to regional Arab states which have been cozying up to Israel.
“While Arab nations initially resisted the Zionist state, the majority of governments “gradually succumbed… they forgot their human, Islamic and political responsibilities and their Arab pride.”
“Certain Arab governments in the region act as the minions” of the United States by preparing the ground for normalisation with Israel through establishing economic ties”, he said.
“Resistance was only growing in strength and effectiveness while Israeli oppression was growing more hopeless and powerless by the day,” Ayatollah said.
Palestine belongs to the Palestinians; therefore, it should be run as they wish. The referendum – with the participation of all Palestinians of all religions and ethnicities”
Iran Leader said, “Palestine belongs to the Palestinians; therefore, it should be run as they wish. The referendum – with the participation of all Palestinians of all religions and ethnicities”.
“On the basis of this proposal, Jewish, Christian and Muslim Palestinians will determine, together, the political system of their country by participating in a referendum”, he said.
Iran Leader tacitly acknowledged that Iran supplies Palestinian freedom fighters with weapons.
“Comprehensive struggles by the Palestinian nation — political, military & cultural — should continue till the usurpers submit to the referendum for the Palestinian nation,” he said.
Quds Day, which Iran has marked since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, is usually commemorated with demonstrations across Iran and many parts of the world against Israel and expressing support for the Palestinians.
This year ahead of the commemorations a poster posted to official website of Supreme Leader stated that “Palestine will be free,” with a line below reading, “The final solution: Resistance until referendum.”
It showed people celebrating at the Al-Aqsa mosque compound in Jerusalem after apparently capturing it from Israel as a Palestinian flag is raised over mosque. Al Aqsa is the third holiest site in Islam after Mecca and Medina.
