Srinagar: Unidentified militants gave slip to government forces after engaging them in a brief gunfight in Yamrach area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Thursday.
The militants, believed to be two to three in number, escaped taking advantage of darkness, a police officer told news agency GNS.
Earlier a joint team of Police, army’s 34RR and CRPF had launched a joint cordon-and-search-operation in Yamrach village following specific inputs about the presence of militants.
As the joint team of approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them which they retaliated, triggering off an encounter.
The senior police officer also confirmed the exchange of firing between the joint and militants. “The operation has been called off,” he added.
