Srinagar: Police on Thursday said that 23 people, including two shopkeepers were arrested while 25 vehicles were seized for defying government orders imposed to combat coronavirus spread.
Five people were arrested and the same number of vehicles seized in Karan Nagar area of Srinagar for defying government orders, a police spokesperson said. In the adjacent Shaheed Gunj, two shopkeepers were arrested for breaking lockdown orders.
“Nine persons were arrested and five vehicles were seized in the areas falling under the jurisdiction of police station Sadder. Besides a butcher was also arrested in Chanapora area for selling meat at exorbitant rates,” the spokesperson said.
He said cases under relevant sections of law have been registered and further investigation into the cases has been initiated.
In Sopore, police seized 15 vehicles for violating government orders, while in Kulgam seven people were arrested for defying prohibitory orders, the police spokesperson added.
