Srinagar: A youth on Friday was arrested for falsely declaring a girl coronavirus positive in a social media post in central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
According to reports, a girl from Sonpah village of Beerwah developed fever, a day after she arrived at her home from Chandigarh, news agency KNT reported. The girl was taken to Sub-District Hospital where her samples were taken for laboratory test. The test for Covid-19 came out negative, the report said.
However, to her utter shock, fake posts were put out on Facebook claiming that the girl has tested positive to coronavirus.
The spiraling rumours caused mental trauma to the girl following which her family approached police and sought their help, the report said.
“Soon, it came to the fore that a youth was spreading the rumour on Facebook. He was arrested and put behind the bars,” a police official said.
“An FIR 82/2020 under section 505 B, 188 has been registered in this regard and the accused has been put in lock-up,”
He identified the rumour monger youth as Khalid Latif.
