Srinagar: Police on Friday arrested 11 people, including an Imam for organizing congregational Friday prayers in Bandipora district in violation of the prohibitory orders.
A group of people in Watrina village of the district assembled at the mosque and tried to offer congregational Friday prayers in violation of the prohibitory orders imposed under section 144 CrPC to contain Covid-19 spread, Police sources told news agency KNT.
The report says that taking strong note of the incident, police booked 11 persons including an Imam and registered a formal FIR vide number 31/2020 under section 188 against them.
Meanwhile, police filed a case FIR no 24/2020 U/S 177 at police station Rajpora after over 150 people offered Friday congregational prayers at a Jamia Masjid in Kamrazipora area.
Witnesses said that people assembled inside the mosque and didn’t make use of public addressing system. They all offered prayers inside the mosque.
Earlier, KNT reported arrest of over a dozen people near the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Srinagar for offering Friday prayers in violation of the prohibitory orders.
