Srinagar: The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has installed two decontamination tunnels at the premier SK institute of medical sciences here, officials said Friday.
The tunnels were installed at two entry points to ensure that the persons visiting hospital including doctors, hospital workers, patients and other attendants get sanitized instantly while entering or leaving the hospital premises, an official spokesperson said today.
Commissioner SMC, Gazanfar Ali, said that civic body has installed tunnels at Chest Diseases hospital, Lal Ded hospital, GB Panth, JVC and two tunnels at SMHS for decontamination and sanitization and more such tunnels will be installed at other hospitals.
Besides, the sanitization of various areas by the corporation is a regular affair to contain spread of Covid-19, Ali said.
Meanwhile, SMC today decontaminated Eidgah and its adjacent areas, which was declared red zone after COVID positives cases were detected from the area, the official spokesperson said.
He said mechanized decontamination vehicles and special teams of workers sanitized the areas to contain coronavirus spread. The sanitization drive was conducted in various areas including Shaeed Mazar road, Heavan, Sheikh Hamzah and Shah Hamdan colonies and Rathpora locality.
“Several mosques in these areas were also sanitized. During the drive, the sanitization chemicals were sprayed in the area as a preventive measure to break the chain of coronavirus transmission,” the official spokesperson said.
Later, sanitization drive was also conducted in Tengpora, where a person was tested positive for coronavirus.
