Bandipora- Two army soldiers allegedly committed suicide by shooting themselves dead with their service rifles in two different incidents, officials said on Sunday.
Sepoy Satendra Kumar Tomar of Murena MP shot himself while he was on duty at 14 RR camp in Bandipora at wee hours of Sunday.
Soon after the incident, his colleagues rushed to the spot and found him lying in a pool of blood, they said.
A police officer also confirmed the incident and said a case has been registered in this regard and further investigation has been taken up.
The officer said it was not immediately known what forced the soldier to take the extreme step.
Army soldier Makhan Lal (40), posted with the 6th Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry, was on sentry duty at Border Road camp in Samba district when he fatally shot himself with his service rifle on Saturday, a police official said.
He said the body of the deceased was handed over to his unit after completion of legal and medical formalities for further hand over to his family in Jammu.
Police have started inquest proceedings, the official said, adding the motive behind his taking such an extreme step was not known immediately.
