Srinagar- In a worrying trend, Jammu and Kashmir witnessed a spurt in coronavirus cases as eleven more people on Monday tested positive to the deadly disease taking the total number of infected patients in the Union Territory to 49.
“Eight people from Kashmir and three from Jammu tested positive for the deadly disease on Monday,” an official said.
“The contact-tracing of the persons who have tested positive today has commenced,” he said.
The number of COVID-19 patients has gone up to 37 in Kashmir and 12 in Jammu. The total number of cases in entire Jammu and Kashmir has gone up to 49.
Out of the total 49 cases, 45 are active, 2 have recovered and 2 have died.
“11644 travellers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been put under surveillance which also includes 355 persons who are in hospital isolation and hospital quarantine. 722 samples have been sent for testing of which 659 have tested as negative and 15 reports are awaited till March 30, 2020,” said a media bulletin released by the government .
The bulletin further said that the government was taking necessary measures including imposition of lockdown to contain the spread of the virus to protect and safeguard the lives of people
“And it is therefore critical for each one of us to follow the advisories and take necessary precautions to break the chain of transmission of the disease,” it said.
“People have been requested to stay indoors, strictly implement social distancing measures, disclose recent travel history to covid-19 affected countries / areas and report any contact with positive cases voluntarily,” it added.
Authorities Warn People Hiding Travel History
As the cases of coronavirus continue to rise across the Valley, the authorities in twin districts of Pulwama and Bandipora on Monday issued a stern warning to the people, who have concealed their travel history, to come forward or face legal action.
In a statement issued here, an official spokesperson said that District Magistrate has issued final warning to people hiding travel history to report within a day or face action.
The DM said that it has come into his notice during the process of contract tracing that a number of people were hiding their travel history thereby putting at risk their own lives and that of general public at large which amounts to a ‘criminal act’.
“Such persons who still have not reported their travel histories are given one last opportunity to report their travel histories,” the DM, according to official spokesperson said.
He asked the people, hiding their travel histories to call on control room numbers 01957-225024, 01957-225323, 9419010752 and 7006526985 or log on to website findcovidbandipora.in within a period of one day failing which penal action as warranted under Disaster Management Act , Epidemic Disease Act and Indian Penal Code, will be initiated against them.
Meanwhile, DC Pulwama has also issued final warning to the people not disclosing their travel history or contact history with any COVID-19 positive case.
“Any departure from disclosing travel history will be dealt as per relevant laws and district police would initiate immediate action against such people. No case of self-reporting or voluntary disclosure will be entertained after 8.pm of March 30,” the officer said.
He urged the persons with any travel history to self-report at established COVID-19 control room, on contact number 01933-240412 and 01933-240912, set up in CMO office.
