SRINAGAR – The much hyped ladies special buses in city were seen ferrying male passengers on Saturday in the city.
The women bus service which was started by Jammu and Kashmir Road Transport Corporation (JKRTC) in 2016 for ferrying women passengers from Lal Chowk to different parts of the city.
Insha Nabi, a commuter at MA road said that what is fun of starting this service when everybody can board these buses.
“Special bus service for ladies was a good move by the government as women and college girls were facing harassment in local buses but these buses. Now it has become a fun now, as male passengers are seen boarding these buses,” she said.
Another commuter, Farzana Sofi said even in local buses, there is reservation of seats for women and specially abled persons but it is restricted to inscriptions only.
“In J&K laws are not implemented as compared to other states such as Telangana where half of the seats are reserved for women,” she said.
An official at SRTC said that there may be the possibility of boarding male passengers in these buses otherwise in normal days it is strictly prohibited.
“There are only 5 ladies special buses for catering population of more than 11 lakh in Srinagar city, he added. (JKNS).
