SRINAGAR – The family of ailing Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman, Syed Ali Geelani on Wednesday rubbished news reports about the deteriorating health condition of the nonagenarian leader.
This evening, rumours made rounds on social media that the ailing Hurriyat leader has passed away at his Hyderpora residence. The rumours were fuelled after a purported statement of amalgam appeared on popular social networking websites Twitter and Facebook detailing the arrangements for separatist leaders funeral at Srinagar’s ‘Martyrs Cemetery’ in case of his demise.
“Geelani Sahab is doing fine. He had chest congestion but he is recovering now,” Geelani’s son Dr Naseem told Kashmir Observer.
Geelani who has remained under house arrest for last nearly a decade is suffering from multiple ailments. His health condition has deteriorated since past six months and he was admitted in SKIMS recently.
Sources in the government in New Delhi also said that Geelani’s health condition is serious but stable.
