SRINAGAR – The Mysore Bar Association has decided not to argue for Nalini Balakumar, an alumna of the University of Mysore, who was seen holding the ‘Free Kashmir’ placard during a protest recently.
Advocate Prithvi.. who was ready to represent Nalini in the case has also now decided not to take up her case extending his support to the association, a UNI report said.
Protests were held at the University of Mysore to condemn the attack on JNU students. Nalini was holding a placard with Free Kashmir remark to draw notice to the internet shutdown in Kashmir Valley. The Police had registered suo motu case in connection with displaying the placard during the protest.
Hailing from a well to do Tamil family Nalini did her mass communications from the University of Mysore in 2016 and later studied at National Institute of Design in Gujarat.
After her photo holding the Free Kashmir Placard went viral on social media, Nalini was detained by police and she also faced trolls forcing her to tender an apology. Nalini also said that she had no intention of creating any confusion. Though she was granted bail, lawyers in Mysore have refused to forgive her and are now denying her right of defence.
