SRINAGAR – India and Pakistani troops on Monday exchanged heavy fire in Naushera sector of Rajouri district, defence sources said.
They said breaching the ceasefire agreement again; Pakistani army resorted to small arms firing on forward posts in Dabdu village of Naushera sector along Line of Control (LoC) today. The Pak troops, they said resorted to heavy mortar shelling after the army retaliated to the unprovoked firing targeting many Pakistani positions.
The cross border shelling was so intense that the local population living along the LoC abandoned their houses and ran for cover in the bunkers, built for the safety of local population from cross border shelling, a local newsgathering agency reported.
In the continued process of cross LoC shelling many houses are reported to have suffered damage due to the continued skirmishes between the two sides, since the special status of Jammu and Kashmir was withdrawn by the Centre and it was bifurcated into two Union Territories.
There was no report any fresh causality from either sides till official reports last came in from both the places, but the shelling was going on. (CNS)
