SRINAGAR – The Jammu and Kashmir government is likely to establish internet kiosks at association level for hoteliers and tour operators.
Official documents disclose that the proposal came up for discussion during a meeting chaired by divisional commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan on December 21 to discuss the issues confronting hotel and tourism industry of Kashmir.
“Director Tourism Kashmir pointed out that there are 11 hotels, tour and travel operator Associations which act as umbrella organisations for tour and travel operators. He suggested that if internet kiosks are established at Association level to be utilized by tour and travel operators, it may help them in restarting business effectively,” reads minutes of the meeting.
The ongoing internet shutdown has severely affected hoteliers and tour operators in Kashmir. The curbs were imposed on phones and internet hours before the BJP-led Central government abrogated Article 370 which provided special status to J&K.
According to minutes of the meeting, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir directed that a proposal in this regard shall be placed before the authorities. He also directed Deputy Commissioner Srinagar and Director Tourism Kashmir to identify locations for establishment of such internet kiosks.
The meeting was held by the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir on directions of Lieutenant Governer Girish Chandra Murmu. (KNO)
