PULWAMA – Security personnel guarding Koil Air Base here in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district fired upon a mentally unsound person when he tried to climb the fence of the Air Base. The incident occurred at around 11:30 of Thursday night.
Official sources told Kashmir News Trust that a man tried to climb over the fence of Koil Air Base when a trooper fired upon him. Sources added that the man was challenged but didn’t stop.
He was shifted to District Hospital Pulwama where from Doctors referred him to Srinagar hospital. He according to doctors has received two bullets, one in his abdomen and another in his arm. His condition is stated to be stable.
A police official identified the victim as Bashir Ahmed Ganaie son of Ali Muhammad Ganaie, a resident of FrisalYaripora area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
He according to locals is mentally unsound who roam from pillar to post day in and day out.
In past as well, such incidents have occurred in Kashmir Valley. In April 2018, Army allegedly killed a mentally unsound man Rayees Ahmad Wani, son of Abdul Hamid Wani of Begam village of Kulgamdistrict, in Pahnoo village of southern Shopian district triggering protest by the family members and relatives of the deceased.
In November, 2018, Budgam also, a mentally unsound elderly man from Soibugh was killed after fired by security personnel in Budgam area. (KNT)
