SRINAGAR – A local from South Kashmir has dragged Government to Court for failing to curb the private schools which forced parents to pay the fee of their wards for the unrest period. Pertinently, after the abrogation of Special Status of Jammu and Kashmir, life came to a grinding halt for over three months as the government not only imposed severe restrictions on the movement of people but also resorted to unprecedented communication clampdown.
For the unrest period all the private schools demanded fee from parents and even after the clear cut directions from the Divisional Administration, these schools also demanded transport charges. The irony is that after forcing parents to submit fee for the unrest period, most of these private schools either refused to pay salaries to their teachers or shunted out dozens of teachers to save winter salaries that these schools were supposed to pay to them.
In a bid to shake the Directorate of School Education, which is virtually in stagnation mode, a local from Dayalgam village of South Kashmir had submitted a petition in the court of law asking it to stop private schools from exploiting the parents. The court of Chief Justice Geeta Mital led Bench after hearing the arguments from Advocate Jahangir Iqbal and Advocate Syed Musaib sought reply in the matter from Chief Secretary, Divisional Kashmir, Commissioner Secretary Education and Director School Education. The court according to Kashmir News Trust has asked these officers to submit their replies by or before January 28, 2020. (KNT)
