SRINAGAR – Three militants were killed in a gunfight with state forces in Rajpora area of Awantipora in south Kashmir on Tuesday, said police.
“On a credible input, a cordon and search operation was launched by state forces in Rajpora area of Awantipora,” said a police spokesperson in a statement.
He said that during the search operation, the hiding militants fired on the search party. The fire was retaliated leading to an encounter.
“In the ensuing encounter, three militants were killed and the bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter,” he said.
“The slain militants have been identified as Naveed Tak, Hamid Lone aka Hamid Lelhari and Junaid Bhat,” he added.
