SRINAGAR North Campus, University of Kashmir, has emerged as the winner of the Inter-Department Cricket Tournament 2019, which concluded at the Main Campus.
The tournament started on 26 June and saw participation of 35 teams from various departments of the University.
In the Final match played on Friday, the North Campus defeated Political Science Department by five wickets. Electing to bat first, the Political Science team was bundled out for 115 in 19 overs following a magnificent spell of bowling by the North Campus, especially Hazim and Javed, with the new ball.
Chasing the target, North Campus lost both the openers within 5 overs. However, a brilliant partnership between Rahil and Sharif put North Campus back in the driving seat. North Campus won the match by 5 wickets with 2 overs to spare.
Later, the presentation ceremony was presided over by Registrar, University of Kashmir Dr Nisar Ahmad Mir. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Nisar congratulated North Campus for winning the tournament after making to the finals for the last three years. He also spoke about the importance of sports and developing a healthy sports culture in the University.
Director, North Campus Prof Naseer Iqbal congratulated North Campus cricket team and Convener, Sports Er. Azfar Farooq for winning the tournament and bringing laurels to the North Campus.
