Allah has created the whole creation on universe for his worship. From time to time Allah has sent prophets for the guidance of people, but most of the people had rejected the teachings of the prophet of their times. For disobedience of the prophets they had to face the punishment of Allah like the people of Noah (AS) who were (punished by floods) people of Saleh (AS) punished with stones.
Catastrophes were not directly subjected for the Ummah of Prophet Mohammad (SAW) as Allah has made it amply clear in Quran. Instead Allah reveals in Quran that when Ummah deviates from this right path, He indirectly torments them by epidemics, earthquakes, droughts, floods, etc with a hope that they retrieve back to their right path. Unfortunately the approach of the people hardens with disobedience. Allah opens the gates of mercy, until they feel proud of their doings and then Allah uproots them from the earth.
If we relate all the happenings which occurred in the Valley from last few decade like 2005 earthquake and 2014 floods causing massive suffering and misery. But instead of repenting and following the command of Allah our hearts have only hardened. Yes it is the man who by his never ending greed amassed worldly riches at the cost of environment and forgot the comforts and support provided by the mother earth.
Man altered the fragile natural balance by using modern technology, converted water bodies in waste grounds and polluted atmosphere by carbon emissions. Over exploitation and mismanagement of vital resources has wrecked havoc with the environment.
Gone are the days when people used to protect nature and attach religious significance to environment. September 2014 floods devastated our economy and life. This is a reflection of what we did with our environment and it is said that Nature bats last. Our actions with environment have hit back and everybody has accused either government or the administration. Analysts suggest that Kashmir floods have resulted due to environmental degradation and unplanned growth. We have transgressed all the barriers, to invite the wrath. We have built city on mountains and hillocks on the places which once were reserve of flowing rivulets, streams, springs, channels, paddy fields, swamps. We are flattening our carevas, high altitude slopes and forests. The shrinking of the flood channel, cross-section construction along flood prone plains and encroachment of wetlands was certainly reason of the deluge.
This may perhaps be the last warning from Allah. Successful people learn from mistakes, soften their hearts towards the humanity, repent and submit to the will of Allah. The day may not be far when we may perish along with this the beautiful valley, a gift of Allah.
