SRINAGAR Members of Shia-Sunni Coordination Committee on Tuesday strongly condemned gruesome rape of a 3-year-old girl in Malikpora Sumbal and urged people to maintain calm and unity even as it urged administration to ensure fast track investigation so that culprit is brought to book without delay.
A crucial meeting of the committee was held at the Ittehadul Muslimeen headquarters, Karan Nagar under the chairmanship of Maulana Masroor Abbas Ansari in which Ulema, civil society activists and trade union leaders participated.
The Coordination Committee is headed by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq but he could not attend the meet due to his ill-health from past over a week, sources close to him said.
Prominent among those present included Karwan-e-Islami patron Maulana Ghulam Rasool Hami, Grand Mufti, Nasir-ul-Islam, Anjuman-e-Himayat-ul-Islam head Maulana Khursheed Ahmad Qanoongu, Sheikh Ghulam Rasool Noori, Hurriyat (G) representative Nisar Hussain Rathar, Peruwan-e-Vilayat head Maulana Sibte Muhammad Shabir Qumi, Ghulam Muhammad Gulzar besides others.
The meeting passed a five-point resolution that called for maintaining calm and brotherhood and urged people to put on hold the street protests till police completes its probe.
The resolution also emphasized that the administration must conduct the probe on fast-track basis so that the guilty is brought to book without any delay. We will wait and see how administration goes about the investigations. Any sort of lackadaisical approach will be reacted sharply, the resolution reads.
We urge state administration to conduct the probe into the brutal rape of three-year-old on fast track basis and to ensure exemplary punishment is given to the culprit involved in the crime, the resolution reads.
The Coordination Committee also appealed the people of Kashmir to remain patient and maintain calm.
The resolution said that the rape of three-year-old was a shocker for entire society of Kashmir and not just for any particular group or a community. The members of SSCC expressed sympathy and solidarity with the victims family and prayed for her speedy recovery, the resolution reads.
