SRINAGAR A National Conference (NC) activist was shot at and injured by unidentified gunmen at Chitragam village in south Kashmirs Shopian district on Monday late evening.
Reports said that the gunmen entered into houses of Sajad Ahmad Ganai (38) and Mushtaq Ahmad Ganai at Chitragam Kalan and took them along. While Sajad was fired upon in his right thigh, Mushtaq was set free after beating him to pulp.
The gunmen later left and in the meantime family members and neighbours reached the spot and removed Sajad to Sub-District hospital Zainapora.
Sources, however, said that Sajad was later referred to Srinagar hospital for advanced treatment.
A police officer also confirmed the incident and said that they have taken cognizance of the incident and further investigations launched in this regard.
Soon after the incident, the government forces launched searches in the area to nab the assailants.
