Srinagar: District Vice President of BJP was shot dead by unidentified gunmen at his home in Nowgam village of Verinag in Anantnag district.
BJP state spokesman Altaf Thakur cinfirmed the news and said Gul Muhammad Mir (60) alias Atal was fired upon by suspected militants at his home Saturday evening.
BJP senior leader and former MLC Sofi Yousuf confirmed that Gul Mohammad was District Vice President of BJP for Anantnag, and had unsuccessfully contested assembly elections for Dooru assembly segment in 2008 and 2014.
Doctors at District Hospital Anantnag said that Gul had received five bullets, three in the chest and two in abdomen. He was pronounced dead on arrival.‘
Slain Leader’s security was withdrawn in February’
The government had withdrawn security cover to the BJP leader in February this year along with hundreds of other ‘protected persons’.
It is the failure of administration. His four security guards were withdrawn recently by the administration, Sofi Yousuf, BJP senior leader and saffron partys candidate for Anantnag Parliamentary constituency said
This is absolutely the failure of the government. The Desh Bakt (patriotic) people are not provided the security, he said, adding, We will meet Prime Minister in New Delhi and demand a CBI probe.
Thakur that the slain BJP leader’s security was withdrawn despite an attack on his house in September last year.
“The unknown persons had vandalized his house while he was not at home, Thakur said.
