SRINAGAR A former Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) activist was injured after shot at by suspected militants at Kuch Mulla of Tral in south Kashmirs Pulwama district on Thursday late evening.
Reports said that the masked gunmen, believed to be militants, fired upon Abdul Rashid Bhat (50) son of Ghulam Ahmad Bhat of Kuch Mullaa outside his home. Rashid received a bullet wound in his left foot and was hospitalized.
Sources said that Rashid was earlier associated with BJP, however, later he quit the party.
A police officer also confirmed the incident and said that the man has been hospitalized and his condition is said to be stable.
Soon after the incident, government forces launched searches in the area to track down the gunmen.
Meanwhile, BJP State Vice President and in-charge Kashmir Sofi Yousuf said that civilian who was shot at Tral was not affiliated with the saffron party.
In fact he has recently joined PDP and was today present in their meeting. Some news pages are labelling him as BJP activist but it is hereby confirmed that the said person is not affiliated with BJP, Sofi said.
